Community Outreach

GHYCF engages with the youth of Nantucket and our community at large in many ways. We are continually expanding reach. Some of our current endeavors:

  • Supporting Nantucket Public Schools STEM program through funding science field trips, updating STEM libraries, and installing a weather station for student research

  • Partnering with others to help launch the Great Oyster Explorers program, designed by TON NRD and the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club, for 4th grade students and up, to study the importance of shellfish in our Harbor

  • This is our 3rd year partnering with the Maria Mitchell Assoc. in support of the scallop research and mentoring program which focuses on the reproductive biology of the Nantucket Bay Scallop.

  • GHYCF’s Youth Harbor Education Program provides high school age students from Great Harbor and the Nantucket community a hands on experience to study the health of Nantucket Harbor and restorative ecology.
